L’ensemble abritera des restaurants flottants, un golf, un espace pour sports nautiques et un hôtel 5 étoiles de 64 chambres dès la fin 2007.
Desert Islands sera également le premier parc naturel national d'Arabie et hébergera une réserve sous-marine et une réserve destinée à la reproduction des oiseaux et des tortues.
Ces développements viennent compléter les ambitions culturelles de l'Ile de Saadiyat sur laquelle seront créés plusieurs musées dont un Louvre d'ici 2012.
